Distressed residents called the police, but by that time, the man had already fled the scene. After gathering a description of the suspect, detectives from the criminal police apprehended him and seized a weapon from his possession.

The crime occurred on December 30 in a dormitory located in the Industrial District of the city. It turned out that a conflict between roommates escalated when the assailant pulled out a grenade and threatened to detonate it.

The suspect was apprehended by the police of the Dnipro District Police Department No. 2. He was identified as a previously convicted local resident.

On December 31, investigators from the police department informed the man of his suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, military supplies, or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
