In Zaporizhzhia, a gang of extortionists will face trial as the indictment has been submitted to the court.

Members of an armed gang carried out robbery attacks on citizens, unlawfully detained and assaulted victims, seized their belongings, and, through intimidation, demanded the repayment of non-existent debts.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zaporizhia region.

The special operation to detain four individuals took place in August of last year.

During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement documented the involvement of the perpetrators in a series of serious crimes committed in the Zaporizhia area. Based on the evidence collected, the leader of the criminal group and his accomplices were charged with:

  • Part 3 of Article 146 (Illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping);

  • Part 1 of Article 121 (Intentional grievous bodily harm);

  • Part 1 of Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, military ammunition, or explosive substances);

  • Part 1 of Article 309 (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or sending of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues without the intent to sell);

  • Article 257 (Banditry);

  • Part 4 of Article 187 (Robbery);

  • Part 4 of Article 189 (Extortion);

  • Part 3 of Article 289 (Illegal seizure of a vehicle);

  • Part 2 of Article 209 (Legalization (laundering) of property obtained by criminal means) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The fate of the accused will be decided by the court.
