Did Trump's immigration order affect Ukrainians? A significant program in the U.S. has been suspended.

In the US, the United for Ukraine (U4U) program is being suspended for Ukrainians who left their country due to the war and sought refuge in the States. The acceptance of applications is currently frozen.

This is reported by Voice of America, referencing the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

"In accordance with the executive order from January 20, 2025, 'Protecting Our Borders', the US Citizenship and Immigration Services is suspending the acceptance of Form I-134A, the online request for support, and declarations of financial support," the agency reports.

Under this order, the acceptance of applications is frozen until USCIS reviews all requests that have already been submitted.

It should be noted that the United for Ukraine program allows Ukrainians and their close relatives who are outside the States to come to the country and stay there for 2 years.

According to the latest data, as of March 2023, more than 118,000 Ukrainians arrived in the US under the U4U program. Additionally, around 25,000 Ukrainians entered the US at the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 by crossing the American land border from Mexico.

Recall that on January 20, President Donald Trump signed the order 'Protecting Our Borders'. Among other things, the president instructed the Secretary of Homeland Security to adjust asylum programs for those arriving in the US and to halt asylum programs that contradict the new policies of the States.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported that Trump has a personal interest in ending the war in Ukraine.
