"‘The GUR is active’: An owl took down a Russian drone in the Donetsk region (video)."

Jokes about Ukrainian "biolabs" are reaching a new level after a video went viral showing an owl taking down a Russian drone. Since this bird is featured in the emblem of the Main Intelligence Directorate, online users have started joking that it was sent by Kyrylo Budanov.

The relevant video was published on the Telegram channel Boroshno News. In the short clip, it’s clear that the bird easily spots the drone in the night sky and disables it.

It is preliminarily known that the video was filmed in the Donetsk region.

Internet users did not ignore this.

It’s worth noting that owls are nocturnal predators that rely heavily on their hearing in low-light conditions, which means they can hear the buzzing of drones much better than humans. It’s possible that this bird mistook the drone for prey or was simply annoyed by its presence in its territory.

Unlike other birds, such as crows, owls do not often display playful behavior, so it’s unlikely that its attack was driven by curiosity.

It has long been known that birds can significantly interfere with the operation of drones, and people have even attempted to use them to combat drones in protected areas. For instance, in the Netherlands and France, eagles and golden eagles were trained. Ultimately, these programs were discontinued due to the high costs of training and maintaining the birds, as well as the significant risks of injuring the birds with the drone's propellers.

Other animals are also not always pleased with the presence of mechanical buzzing devices. For example, last week, a video surfaced showing a cat taking down an FPV drone.

In the Russian segment of the internet, it was suggested that this was a "special Donbas cat" that bravely jumped onto a Ukrainian drone. However, judging by the caption on the video, it concerns a tiny toy UAV Meteor 75-pro, which is unlikely to be suitable for combat missions.

As previously reported, a Polish citizen attempted to illegally smuggle lemurs out of Ukraine. He offered a substantial bribe to border guards for them.
