Resembling his fugitive father: a look at the son of Pshonka, who was baptized by Yanukovych.

The former Attorney General of Ukraine, Viktor Pshonka, is remembered for his luxurious estate near Kyiv, filled with an abundance of gold and expensive furniture. He has a son who was also involved in politics for a time.

Artem Pshonka was born in Kramatorsk in 1978. It was rumored that Viktor Yanukovych was his godfather, although Viktor Pshonka denied such claims. He studied law at Donetsk University and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine. He progressed from an intern to deputy prosecutor in Kramatorsk, and later became the senior assistant to the prosecutor in Donetsk.

In 2006, Pshonka ran for parliament from the Party of Regions and was elected. There, he served on the Committee for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption. He continued to serve as a deputy in the 6th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada.

In 2012, Pshonka was elected to parliament again from the Party of Regions, receiving 65.44% of the voter support. In 2014, the former prosecutor's son fled the country. A year later, he was put on the wanted list. He was suspected of embezzling property by abusing his official position, specifically regarding the alienation of non-residential premises of "Kyivproekt" at a reduced price, causing the state a loss of 22.5 million hryvnias.

It later emerged that Artem was running an underground General Prosecutor's Office under his father's leadership. In the basement of the building, he kept cash and gold bars.

During the Euromaidan protests, activists, along with the police, entered the office but did not reach the basement. However, one employee managed to carry out cash — 60 million hryvnias and gold bars. Afterward, the woman requested a bonus for saving the wealth but was denied and subsequently fired. She later revealed this incident.

Parliament colleagues shared that Pshonka boasted about his capabilities, claiming that for him, a billion in cash was nothing. After fleeing the country, Pshonka's son transferred his apartment in Kyiv to a lawyer from Donetsk, Roman Kutovoy. At that time, there were no restrictions placed on the politician's property.

In 2015, the Council of the European Union imposed sanctions on officials from Yanukovych's era, including Pshonka and his son. A year later, Interpol declined to issue an international arrest warrant for the Yanukovych-era politician.

In 2023, the Court of the European Union lifted sanctions against Pshonka and his son Artem, explaining that the imposition of sanctions may have resulted from errors in assessment and insufficient factual basis.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported on the current whereabouts of former Attorney General Viktor Pshonka. Rumors suggested that he has found new love.
