On Friday, January 10, residents of Ukraine had the opportunity to witness a unique natural phenomenon above their heads — the lunar halo.

The lunar halo is a rare and mesmerizing atmospheric phenomenon where a glowing ring appears around the Moon. This occurs during the refraction and reflection of light through ice crystals found in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

Often, the lunar halo appears as a cold and ghostly halo, adding a mysterious atmosphere to the night sky.

As reported by Space, Venus will approach the young Moon, illuminated by about 18%. They will be just two degrees apart, making them visible even to the naked eye. This phenomenon can be seen in the eastern sky after darkness falls. Besides Venus, Saturn will also shine near the Moon, but it will be less visible due to its greater distance from Earth. Scientists add that when this trio descends closest to the horizon, the first meteor shower of 2025 will begin.
