The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that there will be no "Minsk-3" as it does not guarantee security. According to him, Ukraine needs real assurances, and NATO guarantees that Putin is unlikely to invade again. He expressed this in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan.
The Head of State mentioned that, unfortunately, the current level of international support is not sufficient to completely drive Putin out.
“But we will reclaim our lands – through military actions, with the help of diplomacy, and over time. If our partners exert pressure on Putin, if President Trump, Prime Minister Starmer, leaders of the EU, the Global South, Arab nations, China, and Latin America decide to push him hard enough, Putin will be forced to withdraw immediately.
However, if the international community is not ready to confront Putin together, we will rely on our own strength, our strategic partners, and time. And I am confident that justice will prevail. When asked what Ukraine is prepared for, Ukraine is primarily ready to end the hot phase of this war. We want peace more than anyone else in the world, because the war is happening on our land,” he said.
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, the fastest route to diplomacy is guaranteeing Ukraine's NATO membership and supporting a strong army.
“Membership in NATO alone is not enough, but it provides assurance that Ukraine will never be alone. We must maintain our presence and ensure that Ukraine has the largest professional army in Europe – without risks.
There will be no "Minsk-3." It does not guarantee safety. Ukraine needs real guarantees. NATO assures that Putin is unlikely to invade again. NATO is also strengthening its own security thanks to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian servicemen. This is crucial for everyone,” the President emphasized.
He also added that even for Russia, Ukraine's NATO membership is a guarantee that Ukraine will not seek “revenge through military means.”
“Instead, we will resolve disputes diplomatically. That’s why I said NATO is a guarantee for everyone, stable and economically beneficial.
Putin will understand the necessity to end this war only when a clear ultimatum is set. If the U.S. and President Trump tell him: ‘End the war, or Ukraine will receive the first, second, third…’, he will listen. If China tells him: ‘Stop, or we will sever economic ties, impose sanctions on your banks, and isolate your companies,’ – he will listen,” Zelensky stated.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky declared, that the U.S., in case of unwillingness to support Ukraine's NATO membership, could provide the country with an alternative security guarantee in the form of nuclear weapons.
