The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained the sources of air pollution in Kyiv – here’s what you need to know.

As is well known, the capital has been experiencing deteriorating air quality for several days now. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center reports that data from stationary posts of the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory indicate that from February 20 to February 24, the air in Kyiv exceeded the average daily maximum allowable concentrations, specifically:

  • sulfur dioxide – by 1.3-2.5 times at Bessarabskaya and Galitskaya squares, as well as on Beresteysky and Obolonsky avenues, and on Academician Strazhesko, Alexander Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotok, Kaunas, Orekhovatsky Path, and Semen Sklyarenko streets;
  • carbon monoxide – by 1.0 times on February 24 on Academician Strazhesko street;
  • nitrogen dioxide – by 3.1 times on February 22 at Galitskaya square; by 3.0 times on February 21 at Bessarabskaya square; by 1.6-2.9 times from February 20-22 on Beresteysky and Obolonsky avenues, and on Academician Strazhesko, Alexander Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotok, Kaunas, Orekhovatsky Path, and Semen Sklyarenko streets; by 1.1-1.8 times on February 24 at Bessarabskaya and Galitskaya squares, as well as on Beresteysky and Obolonsky avenues, and on Academician Strazhesko, Alexander Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotok, Kaunas, Orekhovatsky Path, and Semen Sklyarenko streets;
  • formaldehyde – by 1.1-1.6 times from February 20-22 at Bessarabskaya and Galitskaya squares, as well as on Beresteysky and Obolonsky avenues, and on Academician Strazhesko, Alexander Dovzhenko, Kaunas, and Semen Sklyarenko streets; by 1.0-1.4 times on February 24 at Bessarabskaya and Galitskaya squares, as well as on Beresteysky and Obolonsky avenues, and on Kaunas and Sklyarenko streets.

Moreover, it is noted that compared to the previous week, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in the air has slightly increased.
