On November 17, border guards, in collaboration with customs officials, discovered what are believed to be cultural valuables at the "Ustilug" checkpoint, which were being smuggled into Ukraine. This was reported by the Western Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“We are talking about 72 silver coins weighing over four kilograms, which were minted in Cameroon as well as in the Pacific state of Niue,” the agency stated.
The silver was attempted to be transported by bus drivers on the Riga-Kiev route – a 44-year-old resident of Kyiv and a 41-year-old from Poltava region. The boxes containing the coins were hidden among the drivers' personal belongings in the bus's luggage compartment.
Customs officials filed administrative protocols against the individuals for violating customs regulations, and the goods were seized.
The border guards added that the estimated value of the items amounts to 1 million 92 thousand hryvnias.
