NATO has stated that it will target Russia's launch systems if the country attacks the Alliance.

NATO has stated that it will target Russia's launch systems if the country attacks the Alliance.

NATO will not launch a first strike against Russia; however, if the Russians attack the Alliance, member countries will target launch sites on Russian territory. This was stated by the head of NATO's military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, during a discussion at the European Policy Centre.

According to him, NATO countries need to invest more in air defense and long-range capabilities in light of the threats from Russia. Bauer is pleased that the Alliance has raised issues regarding long-range capabilities.

“What I mean is that the idea used to be that we are a defensive Alliance, so we would sit and wait until we are attacked. And then, when we are attacked, we can shoot down the incoming 'arrows' (missiles – ed.). But it is wiser not just to do that, but also to strike at the 'shooter' who is in Russia if Russia attacks us,” said the admiral.

Bauer also added that NATO countries need to destroy weapon systems that are used to strike against Alliance countries.

“And, of course, since we are a defensive union, we will have to take the first hit,” he clarified.

It was previously reported that Zelensky discussed with NATO military committee head Bauer the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
