A cargo plane, a Boeing 737-400 belonging to DHL, crashed near Vilnius Airport. The aircraft fell onto a two-story residential building in the Lithuanian capital. This was reported by Delfi.
The accident occurred around 03:30 Central European Time on Žirnių Street. Following the plane's descent, a fire broke out in the building. A total of 7 fire engines, including the airport's team, were deployed to extinguish it.
There were four individuals on board: two pilots and two DHL employees. Rescuers managed to free one pilot from the cockpit, while two other injured individuals were hospitalized. One person has died. There is currently no information about injuries among the residents of the building.
According to FlightAware, the plane took off from Leipzig/Halle Airport at 03:08. The aircraft was leased by DHL and operated by SWIFT Air.
At present, the operations at Vilnius Airport remain unaffected, but the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
