Record-high prices for cherry tomatoes have been observed in Kyiv supermarkets, with the cost per kilogram approaching 700 hryvnias.
This was reported in the capital's Telegram channels. For instance, in the "Fora" store chain, cherry tomatoes of the "Amor" variety are priced at 639 hryvnias per kilogram.
"639 UAH per kilogram of cherry tomatoes: prices in the capital's 'Fora'," the message states.
However, this is not the limit. A few days ago, a correspondent from Glavkom reported that in "Silpo" supermarkets, the "Porpora red" variety of cherry tomatoes costs even more – 699 hryvnias per kilogram.
The publication "Glavkom" received responses in local Telegram channels. Here's what Ukrainians think about tomatoes priced at 699 UAH.
At the same time, the Novus chain has set a significantly lower price for cherry tomatoes – 199 hryvnias per kilogram.
It is worth noting that prices for cherry tomatoes are traditionally higher than those for regular tomatoes due to the peculiarities of their cultivation and harvesting. However, such a significant price gap between supermarket chains for the same type of product demonstrates a unified pricing policy for food products in Ukraine.
Let us remind you that almost no basic grocery basket is complete without chicken eggs, which are priced low in summer and high in winter. The soaring cost of this product is present not only in Ukraine but also in Poland, where some types of eggs can cost over 150 hryvnias for 10 pieces.
