On Monday, February 24, a high level of air pollution is being recorded in Kyiv. An increase in the concentration of suspended particles has been noted.
This information comes from "Telegraf," citing Kiev City State Administration (KCSA) and data from the SaveEcoBot website. What has caused the deterioration of air quality?
The KCSA report indicates that a probable cause for the decline in air quality is the accumulation of suspended particles (dust). The calm weather combined with elevated atmospheric pressure does not facilitate the dispersion of pollutants.
"Until the air quality improves, it is recommended to keep windows closed, limit outdoor activities, and drink plenty of water. If you have an air purifier, turn it on to maximum," the report states.
The air quality index as of 07:00 on February 24, 2025, calculated using the NowCast formula (US EPA), reached a value of 147.
The air quality index calculated using the NowCast formula (US EPA) for the main air pollutant — fine particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers, in the Svyatoshinsky district of Kyiv as of 08:00 on February 24, 2025, is 190.
Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) consists of solid particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers of various physicochemical compositions: from different acids (nitrates, sulfates) to elemental carbon, heavy metals, rock particles, water, and ice. PM2.5 is smaller in size than a human hair.
