A 17-year-old suspect was arrested by Dnipro police for robbing elderly relatives and attempting to flee abroad.

While threatening with a gun, a 17-year-old relative stole gold jewelry from the safe and a mobile phone belonging to the elderly couple. After the crime, the suspect fled to the Odessa region in an attempt to escape abroad, where he was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The crime occurred on February 2 in an apartment in the Novokodatsky district of the city. Law enforcement officials determined that the victims had a 17-year-old relative visiting them. During the conversation, the young man acted aggressively; he snatched a mobile phone from his grandmother's hands and then, after pushing the 77-year-old homeowners aside, took the key to the safe. Threatening them with a gun, the assailant stole gold earrings and a ring from the safe.

After the crime, the 17-year-old fled the city to another region in an attempt to escape abroad. The police apprehended him in the Odesa region.

The young man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 187 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The attacker faces up to 15 years in prison.
