As we wrote, the Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz has decided to dismiss the Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, who is the leader of the Free Democratic Party. Following this, Lindner announced the party's exit from the coalition, as well as his resignation and the withdrawal of three other ministers from the party. In light of this, Scholz announced that he would request a vote of confidence for the German government, which could lead to early parliamentary elections.
As noted by the publication Tagesschau, Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that he is prepared to hold a parliamentary vote of confidence for his government before January 15.
Previously, the German Chancellor proposed to schedule the vote of confidence in the Bundestag for January 15, with early elections set for March.
However, the opposition wants the elections to take place in January.
A vote of confidence is a necessary prerequisite for holding elections.
“For me, it is no problem to hold a vote of confidence by Christmas,” said Scholz.
However, he conditions his decision on whether the leader of the SPD parliamentary faction Rolf Mützenich and the leader of the opposition Friedrich Merz agree on the date for the vote of confidence.
Scholz suggested that both parties negotiate the schedule.
