A resident of the Rovno region, who wiped his feet on the Ukrainian flag, will undergo compulsory treatment. The duration of treatment for the 60-year-old man from the village of Maly Aleksin will be determined by the court.

According to the prosecutor's office, the man brought the Ukrainian flag to the center of Rovno, deliberately and intentionally threw it on the square in front of the shopping and entertainment center, and began to wipe his feet on it.

He explained his actions to law enforcement by stating that he does not recognize the blue and yellow banner as the national flag.

He has been officially charged with publicly desecrating the flag of Ukraine.

According to an expert's conclusion, at the time of the alleged criminal offense, the man was suffering from a mental illness, thus he was not aware of his actions, could not foresee their consequences, and could not control them.

Based on the doctors' assessments, his mental condition has not changed, therefore the man requires the implementation of compulsory medical measures in the form of outpatient psychiatric assistance to be provided involuntarily.
