Are those with anemia mobilized? Here are blood disorders that typically exempt individuals from military service.

In Ukraine, citizens with severe illnesses are exempt from mobilization. This specifically includes diseases related to blood and blood-forming organs.

This is regulated by the order of the Ministry of Defense №262 dated April 27, 2024. According to medical criteria, individuals with rapidly progressing conditions that significantly impair bodily functions are granted exemption from military service.

In particular, the following diagnoses exempt men from mobilization:

  • anemia with pronounced dysfunction and coagulation issues;
  • hemorrhagic conditions accompanied by increased bleeding;
  • chronic leukemia;
  • agranulocytosis;
  • hemophilia and other coagulopathies;
  • myelodysplastic syndrome;
  • other severe blood diseases that significantly affect health.

Additionally, individuals with disorders involving the immune mechanism that hinder normal bodily functions are also not called for military service.

These conditions can vary in severity and impact on bodily functioning. The decision regarding suitability for military service is made by the military medical commission (VMC) based on medical examinations and established criteria.

It is important to note that the final decision regarding unfitness for service and exemption from mobilization is made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the specifics of the illness and its impact on overall health.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported on whether individuals with joint or bone issues are accepted for military service. Medical conclusions must be documented, as they are the basis for the decision regarding unfitness for service.
