In the Vinnytsia region, law enforcement officials reported suspicions against a convict for drug trafficking in a correctional facility. This information was provided by the regional police.
Specifically, the inmate, who was previously convicted for robbery, committed a new criminal offense while serving his sentence. This crime carries a penalty of up to ten years of imprisonment along with asset confiscation.
It has been established that a 38-year-old inmate from one of the correctional colonies in Vinnytsia region organized a drug supply channel to the facility. Concealed within food products, the narcotics were sent to the individual through postal deliveries. Subsequently, the perpetrator sold methadone to other inmates.
The illegal activities were documented by operatives from the Central-Western Interregional Department for the Execution of Sentences and the correctional colony.
Under the procedural guidance of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office, investigators from the regional police informed the offender of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal acquisition, storage, and distribution of narcotic substances in a correctional facility by a group of individuals in collusion). The sanctions for this article provide for a penalty of up to ten years of imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Other individuals involved in the crime are being identified.
