The CIA believes that the coronavirus likely originated from a laboratory rather than from animals.

The outbreak of coronavirus is more likely to have resulted from a leak from a Chinese laboratory rather than spreading from animals. This is reported by Associated Press citing a new assessment from the Central Intelligence Agency.

The agency believes that the entirety of the data points to a more probable laboratory origin of the virus than a natural one.

“However, the agency's assessment shows a low degree of confidence in its own conclusions, indicating an incomplete, ambiguous, and contradictory evidence base,” the publication notes.

The studies are based on new data, fresh analyses of virus spread information, scientific research, and details about laboratory operations in China.

The CIA clarified that “scenarios of natural origin of the COVID-19 pandemic remain plausible.”

At the same time, they acknowledged that deciphering the source of the coronavirus is unlikely to be achieved due to the lack of cooperation from Chinese authorities.

The CIA promised to evaluate all new information that could change their perspective.

It was previously reported that the new CIA chief John Ratcliffe is considering the lab leak theory in Wuhan to explain the origin of Covid.
