Germany is likely to begin supplying Ukraine with AI-equipped kamikaze drones known as Helsing, referred to as "mini-Taurus." This information is reported by Bild citing its sources.
The Helsing drones are integrated with artificial intelligence technologies, granting them enhanced autonomy in hostile electronic warfare environments. They are compared to Taurus missiles.
It is reported that the company has allegedly received an order for 4,000 of these drones for Ukraine. Deliveries could start in December, arriving in batches of several hundred each month.
Some prototypes are reportedly already being tested and refined in real combat conditions in eastern Ukraine.
A notable feature of the drone is its advanced software, which enables it to "navigate" the terrain using multiple markers and reach its target even in adverse weather conditions or on "scorched earth," as well as countering electronic warfare measures. Once the drone identifies a target and the operator confirms it, it can autonomously engage, even if communication is lost.
The publication indicates that the flight range is allegedly four times greater than that of typical Ukrainian kamikaze drones. At the same time, they are significantly cheaper than American Switchblade and Russian "Zala" and "Lancet" drones.
The Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius expressed his satisfaction that "the supply of these AI-equipped drones is already beginning" and that Ukraine will be able to use them against important enemy targets, such as command posts.
