The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has ordered the relocation of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) employees in Washington to a building previously occupied by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in the coming months. This was reported by Bloomberg.
In the upcoming months, employees of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission will need to vacate their offices.
According to Bloomberg, most of the 1,300 employees of the antitrust and consumer agency work in a building in Washington that also rents space to several other federal agencies. The FTC's 10-year lease on the premises ended last year, but it was extended for another three years until 2027.
The headquarters of the FTC, home to five commissioners and senior agency executives, is located in another government building just a few blocks from the USAID building.
The General Services Administration, which leases office space on behalf of federal agencies, has approached Congress for permission to secure a new 20-year lease for the FTC. Although the Senate approved the new lease request in November, the House has yet to consider it.
We remind you that the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, John Roberts, stayed the order of a federal judge requiring the State Department and USAID to disburse funds to grant recipients.
