European nations are prepared to uphold the ceasefire in Ukraine with the backing of the United States.

France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other European nations are prepared to send military contingents to ensure compliance with a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by French Finance Minister Éric Lombard, as reported by Bloomberg.

Lombard emphasized that support from the United States is essential for effective monitoring of the ceasefire. "If we want the ceasefire to be respected, we need the support of the U.S. I believe the Americans have agreed to this," he said.

It is noted that the French finance minister made this statement following Lombard and French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Washington, where they met with American leaders, including President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Discussions focused on issues related to Ukraine as well as trade relations between Europe and the U.S.

"We discussed all issues, trade, tariffs, and non-tariff barriers," he said, adding: "We agreed to continue negotiations, which is a step forward."

Additionally, Lombard is participating in the G20 finance ministers' meeting. The U.S. and Argentina decided to skip this summit following diplomatic tensions between Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
