Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the country has prepared an immediate response in case the United States imposes a 25% tariff, writes Newsweek.
“If the president decides to impose any tariffs against Canada, we are ready to respond – in a targeted, decisive, but reasonable and immediate manner. This is not what we want, but if he moves forward, we will also take action,” he assured.
The head of the Canadian government emphasized that the country is demonstrating to the new American administration that they have a strong partner in Canada when it comes to maintaining border security, while also noting that they will not back down if tariffs are imposed on Canada.
“We will respond,” Trudeau stated.
He added that retaliatory measures against the U.S. will remain in effect until the 25% tariffs are lifted.
Previously, Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 25% tariff for Mexico and Canada starting in February.
