The elected President of the United States Donald Trump intends to appoint Chris Wright as the Secretary of Energy. This was reported by Bloomberg.
“Chris has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in the energy sector. He has worked in nuclear, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas industries. Most importantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American shale revolution, which contributed to the energy independence of the U.S. and transformed global energy markets and geopolitics,” Trump stated.
The publication notes that Wright is the CEO of Liberty Energy Inc., a company providing hydraulic fracturing services for oil and natural gas in Colorado, and he lacks experience in Washington.
“He has made a name for himself as a staunch advocate for oil and gas, arguing that fossil fuels are crucial for spreading prosperity and lifting people out of poverty. In his view, the threat of global warming is exaggerated,” adds Bloomberg.
Trump stated that if confirmed, Wright will also join the new National Energy Council, which will be led by the nominee for Secretary of the Interior Doug Bergum.
The elected President of the United States promised to revive liquefied natural gas export projects that were put on hold by the administration of Joe Biden. Although the Department of Energy does not have significant authority over oil and gas extraction, Wright will play a key role in assisting Trump in implementing his energy priorities, the publication adds.
Bloomberg highlights that Wright’s selection, whose company is one of the largest providers of hydraulic fracturing services in the world, demonstrates Trump’s support for the “hot-button” method of oil and gas extraction.
