The elected President of the United States Donald Trump is planning to appoint Florida Senator, Republican Marco Rubio, as Secretary of State. This was reported by The New York Times.
The publication notes that Trump has settled on Rubio's candidacy, who was also considered when selecting a running mate for this year's campaign. However, he may still change his mind.
“Rubio was elected to the Senate in 2010 and has taken a 'hawkish' stance on foreign policy, adopting a tough position towards China and Iran. He supports Trump on issues such as the Russian war against Ukraine,” the publication states.
As previously reported by The Judicial and Legal Newspaper, Marco Rubio found himself on the shortlist of candidates for the vice-presidency.
Rubio is the vice-chairman of the Special Committee on Intelligence and is a senior member of the Committee on Foreign Relations, leading various initiatives aimed at strengthening national security.
The Florida senator did not rule out the possibility of taking a position in the administration during a post-election interview.
“I have always been interested in serving this country,” Rubio told CNN. “I have not had any planned discussions with anyone in the Trump administration. In any case, I plan to work with them, whether in the Senate, which is an important place, or in some other capacity,” he added.
Earlier, the names of the candidates for the highest positions in the Trump administration were made known.
It was also reported that Trump chose Mike Walt as national security advisor.
