The head of the German startup Novo AI, Ghemant Mandapati, has become one of the first to switch from ChatGPT to the Chinese model DeepSeek. As reported by Reuters, this new player in the artificial intelligence market is transforming the industry by offering companies access to technology at significantly lower prices.
“I received an offer from DeepSeek that was five times lower than their actual prices. I am saving a lot of money, and users see no difference,” noted Mandapati.
European startups, which are lagging behind American competitors due to limited funding, view DeepSeek as an opportunity for growth. According to PitchBook, in 2024, American investors poured nearly $100 billion into artificial intelligence companies, while in Europe, the amount was only $15.8 billion.
Experts believe that the emergence of DeepSeek could motivate competitors to enhance their models and lower prices.
As previously reported by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper, the Chinese DeepSeek has become the most popular artificial intelligence application in the USA, surpassing ChatGPT. Following its launch, Nvidia's shares and those of other companies plummeted.
Additionally, Donald Trump called the Chinese DeepSeek a wake-up call for US technology.
The Dutch privacy service (AP) will begin an investigation into the data collection practices of the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek, following the French investigation.
