"Give Trump an advantage": Yatsenyuk suggested a solution for the election issue in Ukraine.

A special event of the Kyiv Security Forum, dedicated to the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion, took place in Kyiv on Friday, February 21. During the event, Arseniy Yatsenyuk proposed a specific solution regarding the holding of elections.

He believes that the Verkhovna Rada should adopt a resolution for presidential elections to be held six months after the signing of a peace agreement. According to the politician, this initiative will help address critics and provide "a trump card" for Trump in negotiations.

"The best way to undermine those opposing Ukraine is to adopt a resolution in the Ukrainian parliament on holding presidential elections six months after the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement", Yatsenyuk explained.

He reminded that under Ukrainian law, only the Verkhovna Rada can set the date for presidential elections. The parliament has the right to express the position of the Ukrainian people on this issue.

Yatsenyuk believes that such a decision will clearly define when and how the elections will take place. "It's simple: Ukraine holds elections six months after the end of the war. Period", he stated.

Additionally, Yatsenyuk noted that this step would provide an advantage in relations with Donald Trump: "This way, you give Trump a trump card and take away the arguments from those who want to destabilize the situation in Ukraine."

In Yatsenyuk's opinion, such a document will help Ukraine resolve the issue of elections and avoid pressure from foreign partners.

Previously, "Telegraph" reported why Ukraine and the USA benefit from a security guarantees agreement. This was explained by Associate Professor of the Institute of International Relations, Candidate of Political Sciences Nikolai Kapitenko.
