The Ukrainian Defense Forces have advanced to the northwest of Sudzha in Russia's Kursk region. This is stated in a new report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Geolocation data from January 10 confirms the progress of Ukrainian troops in the northern part of the settlement of Pogrebki. At the same time, Russian "military correspondents" claim that Russian forces have advanced by 3.25 km in the village of Russkoye Porechye, but ISW has found no evidence to support this.
Russian sources also report that fighting took place near the settlements of Cherkasskoye Porechye, Russkoye Porechye, Pogrebki, and Makhnovka. Ukrainian troops have partially regained positions in the northern part of Makhnovka following a counterattack, according to Russian bloggers.
Russian sources note that improving weather conditions in the region are facilitating drone operations. However, mud is complicating ground actions, and a new phase of Russian offensive operations may begin once the ground freezes.
The Ukrainian military has intensified offensive operations in the Kursk region. According to one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters, Russian troops attacked from multiple directions simultaneously and achieved temporary successes in certain areas. However, Ukrainian defenders quickly regained their positions, even after Russia crossed the international border in "several" regions.
