Ukraine can fight without U.S. support at least until mid-2025, according to Sergey Marchenko.

Without assistance from the United States, Ukraine will be able to fight at least through the first half of 2025. This was stated by Finance Minister Sergiy Marchenko in an interview with El Pais.

In response to a question about what would happen if the U.S. ceased its aid to Ukraine, the minister said it could pose a significant challenge for Ukraine.

“What do we need to do to address this challenge? We must plan to create the necessary conditions for cooperation with the new administration. It is in Ukraine's natural interest to build trust for collaboration. I believe this should be a priority strategy for both Ukraine and Europe,” said Marchenko.

The official emphasized that attitudes may change, and to cope with this uncertainty, Ukraine must “make good use of the time and be capable of negotiating with the new administration.”

“I believe we have sufficient resources, enough weapons, and enough missiles and artillery shells to resist at least until the first half of 2025. We will ensure adequate budget allocations for the procurement of ammunition and necessary military equipment in 2025,” the Finance Minister stated.

“This means that, at least for the first half of the year and beyond, we will be well-armed to counter this aggression. Ukraine must use this time wisely to conduct necessary negotiations with our key allies in the U.S.,” the minister added.

Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. is providing Ukraine with a $20 billion loan, to be repaid from the revenue of frozen Russian assets.

It is worth noting that on December 5, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the Agreement with the EU on the implementation of the Credit Cooperation Mechanism, under which Ukraine will be able to receive $50 billion (or €45 billion) from the EU and G7 countries.

In turn, Finance Minister Sergiy Marchenko signed an agreement to establish a Loan Cooperation Mechanism for Ukraine (Ukraine Loan Cooperation Mechanism – ULCM), which will create a legal framework for servicing and repaying funds received by Ukraine.
