During the meeting, Trump urged for an immediate ceasefire, while Zelensky focused on security guarantees—new details about their discussion have emerged.

During his meeting with the elected U.S. President Donald Trump in Paris, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the necessity of security guarantees for Ukraine in any negotiation process aimed at ending the war. This was reported by Reuters.

According to the publication, the discussion between Zelensky, Trump, and French President Emmanuel Macron did not include specific details regarding a potential vision for peace settlement.

At the same time, Trump reiterated his desire for an immediate ceasefire and dialogue to conclude the war.

The publication highlights that neither Trump nor his close officials dealing with Ukraine have provided a clear answer on how they envision the war's conclusion.

"Some key points were mentioned during the meeting – for instance, it was stated that peace requires guarantees, as a mere ceasefire is insufficient; Putin may violate it again, as he has done previously, without proper guarantees," Reuters reports.

Several officials close to Trump indicated that he focuses his meetings on building personal relationships, which are crucial for his diplomatic efforts, and that he will ultimately decide on further actions.

Macron used the meeting to demonstrate that Europeans have already done much to support Ukraine and that they are also prepared to share the burden of security more evenly with the United States, the publication states.

One official noted that Macron and Zelensky conveyed to Trump that Putin in 2024 is significantly different from the one with whom the elected U.S. President interacted in 2017 while in the White House.

He also added that the rapid decline of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the setbacks faced by his close ally Russia were used as arguments for a tougher approach towards Moscow in the upcoming peace negotiations.

As reported, a meeting between Zelensky, Trump, and Macron took place in Paris on December 7 before the opening ceremony of Notre-Dame - the meeting lasted 35 minutes.
