Starting January 29, internally displaced persons can apply for housing rental subsidies. This new support mechanism aims to assist families that are most in need of financial aid. This was announced by the Ministry of Social Policy.
Subsidies are available to IDPs who:
- have left occupied territories or combat zones, do not own housing in relatively safe regions, and have had their homes destroyed or rendered uninhabitable;
- wish to rent housing but lack sufficient funds;
- are already renting housing and are spending a significant portion of their income on it.
The main requirements for obtaining the subsidy are:
- the tenant and landlord must not be relatives;
- the applicant must not be receiving housing assistance;
- the property owner must not be receiving compensation under the "Shelter" program.
At the same time, an IDP family can simultaneously benefit from this subsidy and a subsidy for housing and utility services.
