Switzerland is prepared to arrange a high-level meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, should both parties express interest. This statement was made by the representative of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Bideau, in a comment to the Swiss newspaper Le Temps.
Bideau recalled the Peace Summit organized by Ukraine in Switzerland and noted that following this, Ukraine, Russia, and the USA have been regularly informed about the “readiness to support any diplomatic efforts towards establishing peace.”
“After the summit in Bürgenstock, Ukraine, Russia, and the United States were regularly informed about our readiness to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at peace,” he said.
He also emphasized that the arrest warrant for Putin issued by the International Criminal Court would not hinder his potential visit to Switzerland. According to him, the Swiss government could make an exception if it is deemed necessary for peace negotiations.
As noted by Le Temps, however, Swiss authorities do not intend to initiate the organization of negotiations but are ready to do so upon request from the parties.
