In the Philippines, two Russian divers tragically lost their lives after becoming victims of a shark attack while diving near Verde Island, located south of Manila. This was reported by The Independent.
29-year-old Ilya Peregudin and 39-year-old Maxim Melekhov, along with two colleagues and a local instructor, set out for an underwater dive. However, during the dive, they were swept away by a strong current into open waters. It was at this point that one of the divers fell victim to the sharks.
“The Russian diver was found at the moment of the shark attack. His right arm had been severed, and the predators continued to circle around,” a representative of the Philippine Coast Guard stated.
The second victim was discovered in the water unconscious. Medical personnel attempted to provide assistance, but unfortunately, he also succumbed to his injuries.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers of underwater diving in the waters of the Philippines, where large predators such as sharks are frequently encountered.
