In Transcarpathia, a scheme for the illegal transportation of conscripts has been uncovered. This was reported by the Transcarpathian regional prosecutor's office.
According to the investigation, a 48-year-old resident of Mukachevo and a 52-year-old resident of the Uzhhorod region established a system where conscripts were transported to the border in the cargo compartment of an armored vehicle.
The perpetrators planned to reach the Rakhiv region, from where three "clients" were supposed to travel to Romania. The cost for this was $12,000 per person.
“To avoid additional checks at border control posts, one of the suspects wore a police uniform with insignia and, posing as a law enforcement officer, drove the minibus containing conscripts,” the report states.
However, they were unable to reach the border successfully – while passing one of the State Border Guard Service posts in the Tyachiv district without stopping, the driver lost control and crashed into a pole. As a result, one of the conscripts in the vehicle was hospitalized with injuries.
Preventive measures have already been chosen for two suspects – detention with the possibility of bail. Law enforcement officials are investigating all circumstances of the crime and identifying other individuals who may be involved.
