Ombudsman Lubinets has launched an investigation following statements made by Professor Nikita Vasilenko from Kyiv National University.

Professor of the School of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Nikita Vasilenko has been accused of making unethical remarks about Ukrainian women. Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets has responded to the scandal.

“Perhaps some were unaware, but the professor was involved in a scandal about a year ago, and our organization received a collective complaint from students regarding him. Following my response, the university held him accountable and he received a reprimand,” stated Lubinets.

The Ombudsman has sent a request to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, urging for state oversight of the university's activities, as well as calling on the institution’s leadership to conduct an internal investigation regarding Vasilenko. Lubinets also plans to reach out to the Security Service of Ukraine.

The student parliament of the journalism institute refuses to collaborate with the university administration until Vasilenko is dismissed.

The university leadership has yet to comment on the situation.

Recall that Professor Vasilenko stated that “thousands of hungry Ukrainian women,” who “were unable to leave, or whose husbands have been killed or injured” would be pleased with foreign peacekeepers.
