A study conducted by economists at Cambridge University revealed that certain personality traits may be directly linked to income levels. The experts analyzed data from 22,000 German households, focusing on five key personality traits: extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness.

The results indicated that conscientiousness significantly increases the likelihood of earning a higher salary. Such individuals are viewed as hardworking, dependable, and capable of effectively managing stress, qualities highly valued by employers, writes Inc.

In contrast, agreeableness and neuroticism may negatively impact earnings. Those who are overly accommodating tend to avoid conflicts, which diminishes their chances for effective salary negotiations. Neuroticism, on the other hand, raises stress levels, reducing productivity and confidence at work.

Assistant Professor of Economics Weilun Zhang notes that emotionally stable workers who approach complex tasks calmly achieve better financial outcomes. They are more likely to demonstrate persistence and confidence in negotiations.

The study also showed that while agreeableness helps in building relationships with colleagues, it can be a financial drawback. Conversely, those who exhibit resilience and decisiveness have a greater chance of career success.

This research further confirms that not only skills but also personality traits can influence professional achievements.
