The main factors for them are food, water, and shelter. If these factors can be controlled, the use of chemicals becomes unnecessary, explains Paul Blackhurst, an expert from Rentokil. 2. Close doors and gaps. Keep doors to utility rooms closed to prevent rodents from entering the house. If there are gaps, even small ones, seal them with mesh. Mice can squeeze through openings as small as 6 mm.

  3. Be cautious with bird feed. Bird feeders and their feed can attract mice and rats. The specialist advises storing feed in metal containers with tight lids and avoiding spills.
