Proper storage of cheese in the refrigerator can help maintain its freshness and flavor for a long time. Vlatka Leik, a food storage expert, shared several tips that will be useful both during and after the holidays.

Hard cheeses, such as cheddar or parmesan, thrive best at temperatures between 1–7°C. They are quite resilient and, with proper storage, can remain fresh for months, writes Express.

Fresh cheeses – like mozzarella, ricotta, or feta – require a colder environment. It is recommended to store them in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator to prevent rapid spoilage. These cheeses are often sold in brine, which should not be drained, as it extends the product's shelf life.

Cheeses purchased from supermarkets or delicatessens are usually wrapped in wax paper, allowing them to "breathe." If such packaging is not available, it can be replaced with foil, which is also suitable for blue cheeses. However, it is best to avoid plastic wrap, as it traps moisture and can ruin the cheese's texture.

Another option is an airtight container. It will help avoid unwanted odors in the refrigerator that can penetrate your cheese. For particularly caring hosts, there's a trick: add a sugar cube to the container with the cheese. The sugar will absorb excess moisture, keeping the product fresh longer.
