SubscribeA gardener from Odessa shared her experience on YouTube about how to earn extra income year-round, literally from the attic.
The blogger's family equipped their insulated attic for growing onions. They covered the walls with foil, installed wooden shelves, and lined them with plastic to retain moisture. However, onions can be grown anywhere: in a garage, basement, or even in a room of an apartment.
The main requirements are a positive temperature, ventilation, and a bit of electricity for lighting.

Lighting: No special lamps are required. Ordinary LED bulbs with a power of 12-15 W will do. The calculation is simple: one bulb per square meter of the bed. This is economical and effective.
Soil: Even sawdust can be used for planting – it's light and easier to clean than soil. If sawdust is unavailable, regular soil will also work.
Planting:
- Before planting, soak the bulbs in warm water (40–45°C) for 30–60 minutes.
- Trim the tops by a third to stimulate the growth of the greens.
- The bulbs can be planted closely to maximize the yield from a square meter.
Care:
- After planting, thoroughly water the soil and cover it with black fabric or film for 2-3 days. This helps the onions develop strong roots.
- After a few days, remove the covering, and the growth process continues.
The onions grow in 20-40 days, depending on the temperature and conditions.
